Our spiciest drop yet

The knife came first. Habanero Red Cerakote with a sheen like the pepper's waxy skin, a blacked-out CPM-3V blade, and the same thumbstud and button lock RMX owners carry every day. A knife named for a pepper should bring the heat. So Kyle Crawford, our Director of Product, made a call. Kyle has lived in Southern Oregon for 25 years, but he grew up in Vermont, and his longtime favorite hot sauce still comes from home, from Butterfly Bakery of Vermont, the small-batch maker you may have seen on Hot Ones. He asked owner Claire to build a habanero sauce for this knife and nothing else. She said, "Let's do this." The sauce is Heat Treated Habs. Made to Kyle's spec, and you cannot buy it anywhere. The only place it exists is inside this box, next to the knife that shares its name. One knife, one bottle, one box.

Product Features

Named for the pepper, finished like it

Habanero Red H-318 Cerakote on a one-piece magnesium handle, with a sheen close to the waxy skin of the pepper itself. The blade is blacked out over CPM-3V and the hardware goes black with it, so every bit of color on this knife is the red. It is the loudest RMX we have ever made, and it still disappears into a pocket and gets to work like every other Thumbstud Reverse Tanto, because under the finish it is the same knife.

One thumb open, one thumb closed

Push the thumbstud and it is open. Press the button and it is closed. One hand either direction, and your thumb finds the stud without looking by about the second try, so you can work it while your other hand holds whatever you are cutting. It stays manual. There is no automatic pivot in the box and no way to fit one, which means it ships legal in all 50 states exactly as sold. If push-button automatic is what brought you to the RMX line, the Drop Point and the standard Reverse Tanto both do it. This one does not, and that is the trade it makes.

The sauce is not a souvenir

A full 5 oz bottle of Heat Treated Habs, made by Butterfly Bakery of Vermont to a recipe Kyle Crawford spec'd for this drop. Not a miniature, and not a relabel of something already on their shelf. Butterfly Bakery makes sauce with peppers from small Vermont farms, and you may know them from Hot Ones, but this bottle exists for one reason, and it is the knife beside it. Expect bright fruit up front and real heat behind it. Carry the knife all day. Crack the sauce open at dinner. Use both.
