This can occasionally happen in high humidity. To prevent it, store your abrasive belts in an airtight container or sealed bag.

Use intermittent power to avoid creating a wallow in your blade. Start the machine as you begin pulling the blade through the guide, not before lowering it in, to ensure even sharpening.

Use light pressure and stop while the tip is still supported by the belt. Keep the blade steady and avoid pressing down into the guide to prevent uneven sharpening near the tip.

Keep the guides clean and free of debris. Use them only as angle references—no heavy pressure needed. For extra protection, you can apply tape along the sides of your blade.

Start with a medium-grit belt. Sharpen on one side until you feel a burr along the edge, then switch sides and do the same number of strokes for even bevels.

A flat bevel thickens with each sharpening, increasing friction. A convex edge—created by Work Sharp’s flexible belts—is stronger, cuts more efficiently, and stays sharper longer.

Belt life varies with use. As they wear, they act like finer grits; for example, a worn 220-grit belt may perform like a 600-grit. If sharpening takes longer than usual, it’s time to replace them. In testing, two 220-grit and two 6000-grit belts lasted about 100 sharpenings.

We don’t recommend it. Only Norton belts have been tested and approved by our engineers.

If the circuit is near its load capacity, plugging in the sharpener can cause the breaker to trip. The sharpener also has an internal fuse for safety. Try using it on a different circuit to see if the
issue persists.

The abrasives are peel-and-stick. If they’re hard to remove, use a blow dryer to warm the adhesive before peeling. Clean the slotted or glass wheels with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol if needed.
