Guided Field Sharpener

I have a Spyderco sharp maker, with ceramic rods, several kits in my woodshop for sharpening chisels and plane blades, which do the job but are a bit tedious. I bought this as a lark for myself. I have about a half a dozen folders that I use throughout the day that I sharpen with a kitchen sharpener and while they work well, I was astonished what this field sharpener did. I have a very nice Benchmade knife that I’ve had for years and although it’s very well regarded, I’ve just never been able to get a good edge on it. I used this thing for about five strokes on each stone and ceramic rod and then stropped it and then I took it to a Post-it note and I was able, with almost no effort, to slice it into 1/8 inch ribbons. Amazing.
